ハクビシンは夜行性の動物で、日中に起きている姿を見ることはほとんどありません。
この動物園に10年以上通っていますが、見られるのはいつも、丸くなって眠っている姿ばかりでした。
ところが、この日は違いました。
The moment it woke up
Slowly, one of the civets opened its eyes.
Still half-asleep, it cautiously raised its head and began to move toward the food.
Its long whiskers and alert eyes revealed a side I had never seen before.
ゆっくりと目を開け、まだ眠そうなまま顔を上げるハクビシン。
警戒しながらも、ごはんの方へと体を動かしていきます。
ヒゲが広がり、目に力が宿ったその表情は、
これまで一度も見たことのないものでした。

Seeing one awake, feeding, and moving naturally is a rare opportunity—even in captivity.
ハクビシンは本来、とても警戒心の強い動物です。
起きて、食べて、動く——
その自然な行動を間近で見られる機会は多くありません。
Closing
After finishing its meal, the civet quietly disappeared back into the shadows.
Soon, the space returned to silence—as if nothing had happened.
But for me, it was a memorable moment after many years of waiting.
食事を終えると、ハクビシンはまた静かに奥へと戻っていきました。
いつもの、何事もなかったような空間に戻ります。
けれど、長く通い続けてきたからこそ出会えた、
忘れられない一瞬でした。
