Courage on the Wing – An Unforgettable Moment at Iwakuni Air Base Friendship Day

2015年（平成27年）5月3日 山口県にある岩国基地で毎年おおむね子供の日に行われるフレンドシップデーで、ブライトリング・ウィングウォーカーズが初来日！！
翼の上を見てください！
生身の女性がパフォーマンスしているところなのですが、小雨の降る中での演技にド肝を抜かれました！
ちなみにブライトリング・ウィングウォーカーズ(Breitling WingWalkers)は、1989年に設立されたイギリスのウィング・ウォーキング・チーム「アエロ・スーパー・バティックス」とブライトリングがスポンサー契約を結び、2011年から活動しているチーム名称です。

On May 3, 2015, during the annual Friendship Day air show held around Children’s Day at MCAS Iwakuni in Yamaguchi Prefecture, the Breitling Wingwalkers made their first appearance in Japan.
Just look at the wings.
A real woman was performing on top of the aircraft, and watching her routine in light rain was absolutely astonishing. It was a breathtaking moment that left a deep impression on me.
For reference, the Breitling Wingwalkers are the result of a partnership between Breitling and the British wing-walking team “AeroSuperBatics,” which was originally founded in 1989. Under the Breitling Wingwalkers name, the team has been performing internationally since 2011.
翼のうえに乗ってる女性ですが、かなり選ばれた人というのは理解できますが、自分がやってみたい？と言われればNOでしょう。
でも最近では女性のスキージャンパーが活躍しています。
このときは小雨が降っていましたが、雨粒も飛行機のスピードではかなり痛いと思う・・・
これ以来、このアクロバット飛行チームは来ていないが、日本では相当なレアショットだと思う。
また見る機会があればなぁ～
Although it is clear that the woman standing on the wing is someone very carefully selected, if I were asked whether I would want to try it myself, my answer would definitely be no.
That said, in recent years we have seen more women taking on extreme sports, such as ski jumping, and this performance also shows how courage and skill are not limited by gender.
On that day, light rain was falling, and at the speed of the aircraft, the raindrops must have felt quite painful. Watching the performance under such conditions made it even more impressive.
Since then, this aerobatic team has not returned to Japan, making this a truly rare moment to witness here.
